Pro-Palestinian marches in European capitals condemn Gaza strikes and governments’ ties to Israel

Several thousand pro-Palestinian protesters marched in London, Berlin, Warsaw and Rome, calling for an end to Israel’s attacks on Gaza and an immediate, lasting ceasefire.

In London, demonstrators passed Parliament carrying signs including “End the genocide” and “Free Palestine.” Aimee Shalan of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign called for full sanctions on Israel. Metropolitan Police said they made several arrests, including two people holding signs supporting Palestine Action, which is banned under UK law. Police had also warned that officers could require people wearing face coverings to remove them and would take a zero-tolerance approach to hate crimes.

About 3,500 people joined the Berlin march, police said. Organised by United for Palestine, it began near the chancellery and parliament, with protesters condemning Germany’s arms exports and military support for Israel. Demonstrators in Warsaw and Rome also criticised their governments’ ties with Israel.

A ceasefire took effect a year ago, but strikes on Gaza have continued on a near-daily basis. Gaza’s Health Ministry says about 1,450 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began, while more than 74,200 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.
