Selma Blair was taken into custody Sunday night after authorities said she was physically abusive aboard Delta Flight 938 from Los Angeles to New York. The 54-year-old actor was arrested after the plane reached John F. Kennedy International Airport, where two flight attendants were reported injured and one was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The crew restrained Blair during the flight, while the pilot requested medical personnel and described injuries including a bloody nose and bite marks. Blair was also evaluated after reportedly striking her head against part of the aircraft.
Blair’s attorney said she experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct and was stable after receiving medical attention. After leaving the hospital, she was taken to Queens Central Booking for arraignment on two state assault counts linked to alleged incidents involving an officer and a nurse; the FBI also issued a summons related to alleged assaults aboard the aircraft. The allegations have not been resolved in court.
The FBI is investigating the potential in-flight assault. Delta said law enforcement responded when the aircraft arrived and that the incident did not affect the flight’s operation, while reiterating that it does not tolerate unruly or unlawful behavior.
Blair is known for roles in “Cruel Intentions, ” “Legally Blonde” and “Hellboy.” She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 and announced in 2021 that the disease was in remission. In 2016, she apologized after an in-flight outburst, saying she had mixed alcohol with medication, blacked out and behaved in ways she regretted.
