Peruvian freight businessman with Hitler Mussolini as given names wins Andean mayoral race

Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores, a 45-year-old freight transportation businessman, has been elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in Peru’s central Huánuco region. He will take office on January 1.

Flores, running for the leftwing Ahora Nación party, received 229 of the 663 votes cast in the October 4 election. His closest challenger, far-right candidate Gaspar Osorio, won 204 votes.

Flores had belonged to Popular Force, the party of rightwing President Keiko Fujimori, until 2025.
