The win was Verstappen’s first in Singapore, his 73rd in Formula One and his 250th Grand Prix start. It also completed a weekend sweep after he won Saturday’s Sprint and both qualifying sessions.
Verstappen defended his lead from Leclerc into the first corner and never surrendered it across the 62-lap race. A smooth pit stop from soft to medium tyres preserved his advantage, while radio problems forced Red Bull to rely partly on pit-board communication. Leclerc set the fastest lap on lap 41, but Ferrari’s late pace was not enough to threaten the leader.
Antonelli can mathematically secure the title in Austin if he wins, Russell finishes ninth or lower and Lewis Hamilton finishes fifth or lower; otherwise, Mexico is the next listed opportunity.
Antonelli’s decisive moment came on lap 54, when he passed Lando Norris and Hamilton during a late fight for the podium. Norris finished fourth, Oscar Piastri fifth and Hamilton sixth. Hamilton had started third, but his decision not to pit during a Virtual Safety Car left him on tyres that lost performance in the closing stages. He accepted responsibility over team radio, saying the strategy had cost Ferrari valuable points.
Liam Lawson finished seventh, ahead of Nico Hülkenberg and Russell, while Isack Hadjar took the final points position in 10th. Three drivers failed to finish: Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto with a gearbox problem, Alpine’s Franco Colapinto with a driveline issue and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll with a suspected clutch failure. The championship resumes at the United States Grand Prix in Austin on October 23-25.
