Real Madrid defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 21, extending its winning start in the Champions League to three matches. Leipzig began aggressively and created the clearer opportunities early, but Thibaut Courtois kept the home side level with several important saves, including interventions against Christopher Nkunku and another close-range effort.
Madrid took control shortly before halftime. Arda Güler’s effort was only partially cleared by Leipzig goalkeeper Vandevoordt, and Bernardo Silva reacted quickest to the loose ball to open the scoring in the 44th minute. The goal changed the rhythm of the match, with Leipzig’s counterattacking threat diminishing as Madrid gained more possession and territory.
The hosts doubled their lead seven minutes after the restart. Jude Bellingham delivered a cross toward Kylian Mbappé, whose header was pushed back into the danger area before Güler forced the ball over the line. Mbappé then added Madrid’s third in the 83rd minute with a powerful finish from outside the area.
Leipzig responded two minutes later through Tidiam Gomis, briefly reducing the deficit to two goals. Madrid removed any remaining doubt in the 87th minute when Yan Diomande struck a late volley into the top corner. The victory leaves Madrid with nine points from three league-phase matches, following earlier wins over Inter and Roma. Vinícius Júnior started the match but will miss the upcoming Clásico through suspension.
