Great Britain claimed its fifth World Team Cup title as Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid won the deciding doubles 6‑1, 6‑2 over Japan in Florida.
Great Britain became World Team Cup champions for the fifth time after Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid secured a 2‑1 victory over defending champions Japan in Florida, winning the deciding doubles match 6‑1, 6‑2.
Reid opened the competition with a commanding 6‑2, 6‑2 singles win over world No. 21 Daisuke Arai, a player he has now beaten in five encounters. Hewett’s singles match against Tokito Oda was delayed by extreme heat and he lost 6‑4, 7‑5.
The British squad also featured 21‑year‑old Ben Bartram and was captained by Martyn Whait. Reid previously won the World Team Cup alongside Hewett in 2015, 2019, 2023 and 2024, and the team had earlier victories over South Korea and the Netherlands.
