John Curtis of Utah urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena Donald Trump Jr. over a Russian‑funded Bahamas wedding after‑party.
Senator John Curtis, a Republican from Utah, sent a three‑page letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee asking it to subpoena Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, to investigate whether he used his access to the president for personal gain.
The request follows reports that a Russian businessman with Kremlin ties, identified as Umar Kremlev, paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for a lavish post‑wedding celebration on a private island in the Bahamas. President Donald Trump said his son would repay Kremlev for what he called a wedding gift, a characterization Curtis rejected, calling the payment a “private‑island party paid for by a Putin‑connected oligarch.”
Curtis noted that Republicans have heavily used subpoenas in the Hunter Biden investigation and argued the same scrutiny should apply to Donald Trump Jr. He acknowledged that a subpoena from the Republican‑led committee is unlikely and that top Republicans declined to comment on any planned action.
It remains uncertain whether the Judiciary Committee will act on Curtis’s request.
