Five Russian glide bombs kill at least 15 in Zaporizhzhia, including three children

Five Russian glide bombs struck residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia on Saturday morning, killing at least 15 people, including three children, Ukrainian authorities said. At least 16 others were injured, while additional victims may remain beneath the rubble.

One apartment block was mostly destroyed after the ground floor was hit and the upper floors collapsed. More than 80 workers took part in search-and-rescue efforts, pausing regularly to listen for survivors.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said 13 other regions were also attacked overnight and warned that Russia would face a response. The strikes came hours after US President Donald Trump announced a deal to import Russian diesel, which Zelensky criticised as support for a war that should end.

Zaporizhzhia, a regional centre of more than 700,000 people, lies about 16km from the front line and is frequently targeted by Russian drones and missiles. The deaths followed other deadly strikes, including an attack on civilian buses in Kramatorsk that killed at least 33 people and a missile strike on an apartment block in Pryluky that killed 22, including five children. UN figures cited in the reporting showed civilian casualties in Ukraine rose 55% during the first eight months of the year.
