One dead and several injured after incident on Six Flags Over Georgia coaster

One person died and several others were injured Monday afternoon during an incident involving a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Mableton, Georgia. Cobb County police said the emergency call came shortly before 4 p. M., and detectives from the department’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating.

The incident involved the park’s Goliath ride, which was stopped while riders were evacuated from the track. Witnesses described seeing a rider fall toward nearby woods, but authorities had not confirmed the circumstances of the death or publicly identified the person. The Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner said safety inspectors and investigators were examining the equipment and coordinating with park and public-safety officials.

Goliath opened in 2006 and rises about 200 feet, with speeds reaching 70 miles per hour and an initial 170-foot drop. Six Flags said park personnel and local authorities responded immediately, that it was supporting affected guests and employees, and that it was cooperating with the investigation. Mableton officials said the city’s public safety director was coordinating with police and park security as the investigation continued.
