In its October 2026 World Economic Outlook report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) set a global growth forecast of 3. 1% for 2026 and 3. 7% for 2027. That could be considered fairly optimistic given how we're dealing with high energy costs, a war in Iran, and slowing growth across several advanced economies, especially in Europe. But the artificial intelligence (AI) build-out is clearly having a positive impact that, for now at least, is outweighing all of these negative factors. But there are a couple of big problems, too.
