Kinder Morgan’s third-quarter update highlighted a sharp expansion in projects intended to move natural gas, with the company’s expansion backlog reaching $14. 4 billion.
The largest additions were the Southeast Connector for Southern Natural Gas and Permian Link for Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America. Southeast Connector is designed to move up to 2. 6 billion cubic feet per day through about 470 miles of new pipeline and expanded compression, while Permian Link is planned to provide about 2. 8 billion cubic feet per day through roughly 434 miles of new pipeline and related facilities.
Both projects have reached final investment decisions and are supported by long-term take-or-pay transportation agreements. Southeast Connector is expected to begin entering service in phases in the fourth quarter of 2030, subject to permits and approvals. Permian Link is targeted for the third quarter of 2030 under the same conditions and will serve new power generation for an A-rated hyperscale customer. More than 75% of Kinder Morgan’s backlog is connected to power-generation or local-distribution-company demand.
The quarter also produced record financial results.
Kinder Morgan also sanctioned additional phases of its Creekside Lateral project in Central Texas, backed by agreements with data-center and industrial customers. A separate Bear Creek Storage Expansion received approval to add about 10 billion cubic feet of storage capacity, with service expected in April 2029.
The investment significance rests on the backlog’s contracted structure and its long timetable. The projects are not current earnings, and their expected contribution depends on construction, permitting and customer commitments.
