IREN shares rose more than 5% in Monday premarket trading after a report said the crypto miner-turned-AI server provider had signed a multiyear cloud agreement with Anthropic.
The agreement has not been publicly announced. People familiar with the relationship said Anthropic had reached the deal with IREN as it presses cloud partners to accelerate construction of new data centers and expand computing capacity.
Anthropic’s broader expansion is increasingly involving current and former bitcoin miners, including Hut 8, TeraWulf, IREN and Nscale. IREN disclosed in August that it had signed a contract with a leading AI lab but did not identify the customer, making the reported Anthropic agreement a possible match for that earlier announcement.
