NYSE American adds premarket and late-day options trading for 29 stocks and ETFs

NYSE American began extending trading hours for 29 eligible equity-option classes on Oct. 19, adding a 7: 30 a.

The initial list includes options on Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Amazon, Tesla, Meta Platforms, Intel, Advanced Micro Devices, Broadcom, Oracle, Netflix, and other large-cap companies. It also covers the SPDR S&P 500 ETF, Invesco QQQ Trust, iShares Russell 2000 ETF, SPDR Gold Shares and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund.

The five ETF classes already trade through 4: 15 p. In NYSE American’s core options session, so their main new feature is the early window. The individual-stock classes generally use a 9: 30 a. Core session followed by the 15-minute late session. Orders for the added sessions must identify the session in which they may trade, and market orders are not allowed during the early or late windows.

NYSE American’s rule filing said the shorter extension was designed as a measured introduction because physically settled equity options have limited experience trading outside regular hours. The filing also noted that equity options generally depend on the underlying securities trading, which constrains how far their hours can be extended.

The Securities and Exchange Commission approved the amended rules on Aug. 28 after the exchange proposed the change in June. The rollout places NYSE American alongside Cboe Options, which scheduled matching 7: 30 a. NYSE has also said it plans to bring an extended-hours approach to equities in December.
