Microsoft’s AI expansion is beginning to show measurable returns, with strong Azure demand and growing Copilot adoption. The progress marks an early payoff signal for the company’s large investment in artificial intelligence.
The company’s next challenge is converting that demand into a durable earnings engine. Rising utilization and improving efficiency will have to offset massive capital spending, pressure on margins and weaker free cash flow.
Microsoft’s stock has increased roughly 15-fold since Satya Nadella became chief executive in 2014, equivalent to an annual growth rate of about 27%. That performance followed 14 years of near-zero growth, but the company’s heavy AI spending now puts the sustainability of that pace to a new test.
