Stock futures edged higher Tuesday evening as investors assessed a mixed earnings slate and watched major indexes test important technical levels.
SpaceX delivered the strongest earnings signal.
Tesla shares gained 1. A move above the 200-day moving average, just below $395, would mark a trendline entry under the supplied technical framework.
Meta Platforms was also due to report, making its results and capital-spending guidance a key test for the artificial-intelligence trade. Meta had scheduled its third-quarter results for after the market close Wednesday, followed by a conference call with investors.
Super Micro Computer shares jumped more than 10% in late trading after the company issued strongly preliminary results. Netflix beat earnings expectations and described viewer engagement as healthy, but revenue matched forecasts and its fourth-quarter sales outlook was slightly lower; Netflix shares fell in extended trading.
The broader market remained near its 50-day moving averages.
Oil added another source of volatility. Prices reversed lower amid reports of a possible U.S. -Iran agreement, although subsequent reports questioned whether such an agreement was close.
Sector trading showed investors favoring a mix of defensive and growth exposures. Health care, homebuilders, financials, airlines and software-related funds rose, while semiconductors and metals-and-mining funds declined.
