Bitcoin consolidates near $86,000 as rally narrows and Brent slips below $100

Bitcoin hovered near $86,400 as trading volume fell and market breadth narrowed, while Brent crude slipped below $100 on hopes of a U.

Bitcoin traded at $86,379, up 0.24% since midnight UTC, with daily volume down 36% to $38 billion after Monday’s breakout. Market breadth narrowed sharply, with 38 of the 100 CoinDesk 100 constituents lower on the day, though the rolling 24‑hour view still showed 87 higher and 13 lower.

Brent crude fell below $100 for the first time since Sept. 9, trading at $99.13 after touching $108 in mid‑September. The dip was attributed to hopes of a U.S.–Iran deal, which analysts said removed the last of the energy‑driven inflation scare linked to the Fed’s Sept. 16 rate rise.

Crypto futures volume fell 21% to $227 billion in 24 hours while open interest edged up 1% to $159.4 billion. Short‑side taker flow rose to 51% of volume, and USDT‑margin borrow rates rose to 5.49%, near a multi‑month high. Whale long/short ratios on Binance slipped below 0.98, indicating large accounts trimming longs rather than flipping short.

Bitcoin Cash surged over 30% after CME announced a futures listing, with its price up 32% to $351.59 and open interest rising nearly 7% to its highest since Aug. 22. Other altcoins showed mixed moves, with XRP up 3.3% and Ether down 0.09%. The available reporting is limited to these market observations.
