New Riyadh airport strike kills one and injures 11 as Saudi attacks intensify

A new projectile strike hit King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday, killing a Pakistani resident and injuring 11 people, Saudi civil aviation authorities said. The attack struck Terminal 4, which serves domestic flights, started a fire and prompted further safety inspections and damage assessments.

The strike followed a missile attack on the same airport Saturday that killed 12 people and injured more than 300, including some critically. India’s embassy said one of its citizens later died from injuries sustained in that attack, raising the Saturday toll to 13. The latest casualties bring the reported total from the recent Riyadh airport attacks to at least 14 dead and 320 injured.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the airport attacks and other strikes, while the Saudi-led coalition blamed the group for Saturday’s deadly missile attack. Riyadh’s airport has been hit four times in five days and remained closed after the Saturday strike; authorities had not announced when operations would resume.

The escalation has widened the fighting between Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and the Iran-backed Houthis. Iran said it was willing to help mediate an end to the conflict, and Saudi forces reported responding to further drone and cruise-missile attacks on Monday.
