Anderson reflects on Netflix’s cancellation of Sweet Magnolias after five seasons and announces a new drama, Ladies of the House, with JoAnna Garcia Swisher.
Creator and showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson posted on Instagram after Netflix announced the cancellation of Sweet Magnolias, expressing gratitude for the five‑season run, the cast and crew, and the fans, and wishing the series’ setting, Serenity, “a place in your heart.”
The series, which debuted on Netflix in May 2020, starred JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley and was adapted from Sherryl Woods’s New York Times‑bestselling books. Netflix said the show consistently ranked in its Global Top 10 in more than 60 countries during its fifth‑season run.
Netflix also disclosed that Anderson and Swisher will collaborate on a new drama titled Ladies of the House, with Anderson serving as showrunner and Swisher potentially starring and executive producing under the Rolling Clover banner alongside Kate Gordon and Black Label Media. The logline describes a family‑owned winery dealing with loss and internal conflict.
Further details about the new series’ production schedule or release date have not been provided.
