Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective announced a film on R&AW founder Rameshwar Nath Kao, slated for an Aug 11 2028 release.
Dharma Productions, in partnership with Leo Media Collective, confirmed a theatrical feature about Rameshwar Nath Kao, the founder of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). The film is targeted for an August 11, 2028 release, timed to the Indian Independence Day holiday weekend and the agency’s 60th anniversary.
The untitled espionage actioner is currently in development and is based on Nitin Gokhale’s book “Gentleman Spymaster.” Production is slated to begin by mid‑2026. While an unnamed A‑list actor has been attached to lead, casting, the director and other key details have not been disclosed.
The story will span 1955 to 1971, covering the lead‑up to R&AW’s formation in 1968 and its first mission during the 1971 war with Pakistan. Karan Johar said Leo Media has spent two years researching the narrative and that the film aims to pay homage to R&AW and honor its milestone year.
The announced release date is a target; no firm schedule has been confirmed, and further production details remain pending.
