Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War storyline has reached its animated conclusion, ending a wait that began when the original television series stopped in 2012 without adapting the manga’s final arc. The final installment was available through Hulu in the United States and Disney+ in international markets, with the last two subtitled episodes moved to Mondays in October.
The original Bleach anime ran from 2004 to 2012 across 16 seasons. The series became one of Japan’s major manga and anime franchises alongside One Piece and Naruto, and its return gave viewers a chance to see the Thousand-Year Blood War animated after the manga ended in 2016.
The final arc began its television release in 2022, ten years after the earlier anime ended, and was divided into four parts. Production was handled by Pierrot Films, with Kubo closely involved in the adaptation. The anime added scenes and characters that were not present in the manga, an important change for fans who had viewed the printed conclusion as rushed and disappointing.
That history shaped the response to the finale. Ruby, 27, who began reading Bleach at nine, said she laughed more than she cried and was glad Kubo could present a fuller version of his vision. She and fellow fan Nicholas, 30, connected through the series, while Nicholas said Bleach helped him make friends at school and inspired a tattoo. Itanna Alakija, 28, called the revised ending a perfect conclusion but acknowledged that some viewers might want more action. He also praised the series’ depiction of Black characters as people rather than stereotypes and said a closing tease left him hopeful that the wider Bleach universe could still produce more stories.
