Chile Film Industry Surges 20.5% Compared to Previous Season, New Catalog Reveals (EXCLUSIVE)

CinemaChile’s 2026‑27 catalog shows a 20. 5% rise in Chilean film titles to 188, with strong female participation and extensive international co‑production.

CinemaChile unveiled its 2026‑2027 catalog at the San Sebastián Festival on Sept. 21, reporting a 20.5% increase in the number of Chilean film titles compared with the 2025‑2026 period, rising from 156 to 188 titles.

Board member Gabriela Sandoval said the growth “demonstrates the strength of Chilean cinema, which has continued to grow over the past five years.” Of the 188 titles, 66 are directed or co‑directed by women and 100 are productions or co‑productions featuring leading industry professionals; more than 80% are international co‑productions linking Chile with 23 countries.

Juan de Dios Larraín, producing partner of Pablo Larraín, noted that Chile’s market size makes co‑production “essential” because domestic financing alone “doesn’t add up,” and that this limitation drives collaboration beyond Chile’s borders.

The catalog features eight titles across seven festival sections, illustrating a diverse and internationally connected sector, but the reporting relies on statements from CinemaChile representatives and festival presentations, with no independent data provided.
