S. Korea's Q2 current account surplus ranks 2nd on robust chip exports

25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea posted the second-largest current account surplus among major economies in the second quarter, surpassing the combined surpluses of Germany and Japan, central bank data showed Sunday.

South Korea has reported a current account surplus every month since May 2023, making June the 38th consecutive month the balance has been in the black.

The dollars flowing in from exports are building a buffer that underpins the country's external position.

Semiconductors drove the July figure.
