(Asiad) S. Korea wins bronze in mixed medley relay with new nat'l record

South Korea took bronze in the Asian Games mixed 4×100 m medley relay, setting a new national record of 3:44.

South Korea earned the bronze medal in the mixed 4x100‑meter medley relay at the Asian Games in Tokyo, finishing in 3:44.12. The time established a new South Korean national record, surpassing the previous mark of 3:46.78 set when the team won bronze at the 2023 Asian Games. China won gold in 3:40.38 and Japan took silver in 3:43.98.

The bronze‑medal quartet comprised Kim Seung‑won, Choi Dong‑yeol, An Se‑hyeon and Kim Young‑beom. Kim Young‑beom now holds four medals from the Tokyo Games, adding this relay bronze to his gold in the men’s 50 m freestyle, silver in the 100 m freestyle and bronze in the men’s 4x100 m medley relay. Kim Seung‑won secured her third medal of the competition, having earlier won bronze in the women’s 100 m backstroke, while An, competing in her first Asian Games since 2018 at age 30, recorded her fourth career medal.

South Korea’s heat swimmers—Lee Eun‑ji, Park Si‑eun, Kim Ji‑hun and Hwang Sun‑woo—also received bronze medals for their contribution in the preliminary round. Hwang Sun‑woo’s medal tally rose to five in Tokyo after adding a silver in the men’s 200 m freestyle later that day.
